For the last two days, during Riley's afternoon nap, she has taken her pants off. It is so funny to see! I could not believe it the first day. My mom was here with me. I checked the monitor because she had been playing around in her crib instead of sleeping, I wanted to see if she had fallen asleep yet. I started laughing when I realized her pants were off and showed the monitor to my mom. We figured it was a fluke thing. Then the next day during her nap, she did it again! Yup, she knows how to take her pants off now.
Riley is doing better with "talking" back to us when we make conversation. When Aaron calls to check in, I put the phone on speaker and she talks to him! It's really neat to hear.
Today, Riley had her first blood test. (NJ law to check babies' lead level at a certain age.). She was not happy and it broke my heart to hear her cry in pain, with tears dripping down her cheek. It didn't help that the first time they tried, they had no luck so they tried the other arm. The lady said, "she has small veins." Don't all babies have "small veins?" that, or maybe she took after her mother. I get blood tests often and many times it takes a couple tries. Anyway, glad that's over!
This past Monday, when my mom was visiting we went to Cracker Barrel for lunch. This was Riley's first eating experience at a restaurant. We don't eat out often anymore, and in the past when we've gone Riley didn't eat food with us. She started off fussy but once we got her settled down, she enjoyed a variety of yummy foods. We left a huge mess for the employees. I was mortified at how messy the floor was, actually. I know I have many messy floors ahead of me...so I just have to accept it.
Also, several days ago Riley was standing on her own without holding on to anything! We were playing, and she was holding on to my knee while I was sitting with her. Then all of a sudden I realized she wasn't holding on to me anymore! It was only a second, but it made me happy.
Its been more fun shopping at stores now, with Riley sitting in the cart like a big girl. I could've done that a few months ago when she first learned to sit on her own but decided to wait, I didn't see the rush. The way they make car seat carriers now, it would've been more of a hassle to take her out and carry her, when I could just pop the car seat out and carry her in it and attach to the top of the shopping cart. Now that she's heavier though, it's easier to take her out and carry just her into the store. Lugging that carrier with her in it is getting to be a pain. Besides, she's older now and prefers sitting up. She has a lot of fun looking around at people and things.

9 months old!
Riley, you are now 9 months old!
You are crawling, standing, cruising furniture, testing yourself all the time to do more and more. You are our rebel (even your doctor said so.) Soon you will be walking...no, running!
You love Tater (our cat). Every time you see him you smile, make noises and crawl fast towards him. You will follow him around the house. If he's laying on the couch, you go right up to him to pat his tail or face...even if he doesn't like you...you sure love him!
You have eight teeth now, and more are on their way. You drool all the time, and bite on every thing. Your crib is all chewed up. You even grind those little teeth together, the sound makes Daddy cringe!
You love food. Everything we've given you up to this point, you have eaten. In the very beginning you turned your nose at bananas and peas, but now you love them. You especially love feeding yourself. In fact, often you throw your hands in the air and complain when I try to feed you with a spoon. You want to do it all by yourself. We give you a lot of foods and you eat them right up!
You can drink from a sippy cup now. You love water. You prefer the sippy cup with a straw right now, but before we know it you'll be drinking water from any cup we give you!
You sleep great at night and have been for months. 12 hours! You go to bed early, and wake up early. You take two naps a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I have finally gotten used to our schedule!
You give kisses now. Well, sort of. You will put your mouth on mine and Daddy's face and while your mouth is wide open you just sit there, still. It's a very wet kiss, but so cute. You gave Daddy kisses before me!
You love being outside. I thought babies hated wind and cold, but you do just fine. You are so cozy on our cold winter walks, that you fall asleep most of the time. You smile when the breeze hits your face!
You love your toys, but aren't always sitting still long enough to play. You play a lot in your crib. I leave safe toys in there for you to play with before you go to sleep and when you wake up in the morning. You are starting to love books even more - which I've really been enjoying. You sit still now when I read to you, instead of always trying to eat the book or throw it!
You are babbling more, trying out new sounds all the time. Your new letter is "d." Yup, you say "dada" now! The doctor said your "m's" will be next...so I'm waiting for that "mama" to come out soon!
You prefer being active to being a social butterfly...but something tells me that soon, you'll take more interest in being verbal. Maybe you just have to master walking first? You talk mostly in your crib, or in the car, or when you think no one is looking. Sometimes you turn your head in a bashful way when people catch you doing something silly, like babbling to yourself. You are so funny, always smiling and cracking up with us! Such a happy baby, and many people have told me that about you too (even strangers we see in the store!)

First Snow
Riley experienced her first snow on December 27, 2010. She was not happy getting all dressed and ready to go outside. She reminded us of Ralphie from A Christmas Story. She couldn't put her arms down, move or even see well...haha. We had to get her all warm and covered though. Once we were outside, she put on a smile or two and seemed to enjoy the cool breeze. (Riley loves wind and being outside!) Once she's walking, the snow will be even more fun to her!

We had a fun morning opening presents with Riley.
Later in the day we enjoyed a visit with my parents...yummy food and more presents.

Delay
I have more pictures I want to share with you; Christmas, first snow, and Riley's 9 month pics. I went over the limit on photo storage space. Instead of immediately purchasing more storage, we were researching it some. I can't figure out an easy way, so I have to resize all 400 plus pictures that already have been posted to my blog. Hopefully this will help create more space on my Picasa album. With Riley, it's hard to find time to do this so I have slowly been working on it while she's sleeping and now will start working on it in the evenings too. What a pain! If anyone knows more about this stuff, any suggestions would be great. I thank you for your patience. Eventually, I'll be back up and running and will have lots more photos to share with you all!

Girls' Christmas
We always have Emillie and Hannah on Christmas Eve for their "Christmas" with us. We had a really fun day with them, which we always do. They are so fun to be around...very goofy girls. They make us laugh and vice versa. It was a special day, their first with little Riley around too! They got a lot of the gifts they asked for, so were very pleased. :)

Stair Climber
On December 17th I witnessed Riley climb a few stairs for the very first time. We had just got back from Target and I was putting stuff on the stairs that needed to be taken to the 2nd floor. She immediately wanted to go up the stairs to get it! I couldn't believe it. I had to take pictures and let her show me what she was capable of. I love seeing her accomplish new things, it is so cool.
